Dave Koch was a corporate pilot who enjoyed a successful aviation career flying as captain in the Learjet Models 25 & 35, the Israeli Westwind and Cessna Citation jet aircraft. He was also experienced in corporate aircraft management and business administration.

Dave met Kyle Bacon during 1995 when Kyle was operating Your Connection World Wide Web Services, with a small office in Hilliard, Ohio. Kyle had only months before finished his electrical engineering and computer sciences degree at Ohio Northern. Kyle was 23 years old, while Dave was 39.

Kyle and Dave recognized that combining Dave's business experience with Kyle's technical experience could form a team to grow a business in this new "Internet" thing that few had ever heard of. They agreed that Kyle would hire Dave as President of Your Connection for ten dollars, and that they would become 50-50 partners.

Kyle quickly confessed that he did not have expertise in business and Dave took over responsibility for the business functions.

Although Kyle was dedicated to a career building websites, Dave saw that the real potential was in providing Internet access and bandwidth commercially and building out a national backbone.

Dave explained to Kyle that building websites was labor intensive, whereas selling Internet access created a recurring income stream. After a little prodding and convincing, Kyle agreed to shift focus from building websites to building a national network.

Dave recognized the importance of imaging. It was a first level goal to occupying our own building. Dave set a goal to locate a stand-alone building. Dave located a free standing building, contacted the owner directly and negotiated a five year lease with the first few months being zero and stepping up as our revenues increased.

Remember Fiber Network Solutions? Who built it? Kyle will tell you who built it.

Your Connection's first stand-alone building, which was affectionally called, "The Litter Box." Your Connection would be merged into the newly formed, Fiber Network Solutions, Inc.

Dave, Kyle and Your Connection occupied the new self-standing building (affectionally called, "The Litter Box") and Dave began the process of incorporating Fiber Network Solutions, Inc. through the Ohio Secretary of State.

As Dave was sitting in his office, drawing zero income from Your Connection or Fiber Network Solutions, he received a phone call from Richard Smith of NetJets, Inc. located at Columbus International Airport.

Richard Smith offered Dave on the spot a position as a Gulfstream IV captain, which brings in a middle six figure income. It's also considered the top corporate jet to fly.

Dave had made commitments to Kyle, a young guy only 23 years old. Dave thanked Richard Smith and told him that he would have to decline, "because I'm siting here losing money hand over fist." They both laughed and Mr. Smith said, you are the first pilot in my career who has turned down a captain position in the Gulfstream.

As much as Dave would have loved to fly the Gulfstream, he and Kyle had begun forming a bond that went beyond partners - it became a mentorship for Kyle, and Kyle told Dave that he was like a father figure.

Dave was fully invested - no turning back.

Thirty-plus years later, Kyle called Dave and and talked for roughly four hours. Quotes are throughout this website, proving who built the company.

"Going through those eight years with you. I couldn’t have done it without you."

Kyle further said, "I talk to kids and mentor them. I could not be that man without Dave’s influence."

"Not only did you run a company, we were the Inc 500... 68. And I want you to know you should be proud of yourself." Kyle Bacon
"But you knew a lot about a lot of things that I didn't know about. Because of lack of experience. Not that I was dumb......was the first step. You were good. You were good at the things that I didn't know anything about." Kyle Bacon
"I had to start with you because you were my partner, Dave. I had to right it with you first." Kyle Bacon
"I would not have been here without the both of you." Kyle Bacon
"I wake up some mornings and think about what we did for all of these kids, right. And I mean, I was one of those kids. … I was a baby." Kyle Bacon
"I just realized all of the things I couldn't say when I was a child, but I'm not a child anymore." Kyle Bacon
"Honestly the biggest reason for this call... is that I want you to know I don't blame you for anything... you know, as a father figure." Kyle Bacon
"You took a child and turned him into a businessman. ...I am Dave, twenty years ago. I couldn't be that man today without his influence." Kyle Bacon
"The purpose of my call Chris, is to thank you both for everything that you taught me, that we experienced together, and I am a better person for knowing the both of you." Kyle Bacon
"Dave, I love you. Please tell Chris I love him as well." Kyle Bacon

Who Built Fiber Network Solutions, Inc. (FNSI)

Public profiles and third-party summaries that identify Kyle Bacon as the “founder,” “CEO,” or primary force behind Fiber Network Solutions, Inc. (FNSI) are inconsistent with the contemporaneous record.

From its inception through its growth years, David J. Koch was the founder, president, and driving architect of FNSI’s business model, network design, and expansion strategy. Independent press coverage, industry publications, and internal materials from the period consistently attribute to Koch the vision, execution, and leadership that built FNSI into a profitable, operating Tier One backbone provider.

By contrast, later public narratives began to reframe that history—elevating Kyle Bacon’s role while omitting or minimizing Koch’s. These profiles frequently present a simplified or altered account of FNSI’s origins and growth, one that does not align with the documented record.

This shift in attribution is not supported by:

* contemporaneous media coverage (1996–2002),

* corporate materials and operational documentation,

* or recorded statements acknowledging the origin of FNSI’s model and structure.

The historical record is clear and consistent:

FNSI was conceived, built, and led by David J. Koch.

Any narrative that suggests otherwise reflects a later reconstruction of events, not the reality documented at the time.

The truth doesn’t sink...

No matter how deep you try to bury it,

it always resurfaces.  ...Always!

For over two decades, the full story of FNSI has remained untold. But now, there’s no more speculation. No more guessing.

Kyle Bacon’s own words tell the truth.
